How SEGwifi collects, uses and protects personal information submitted through this website.
Who we are
This website is operated by SEG Wifi Limited (trading as SEGwifi), part of The Specialist Electrical Group Ltd, of Wifi House, 194 Watford Road, Chiswell Green, St Albans, Herts AL2 3EB. Registered in England and Wales, company number 17279529.
We are the data controller for personal information you provide through this website.
What we collect, and when
We only collect personal information that you choose to give us. There is one enquiry form on this site. When you use it we collect:
- Your name
- Your company name, if you give one
- Your telephone number
- Your email address
- The service you selected, the site details you described, and anything you write in the message field
- Which page the enquiry came from, so we know what you were reading
- An approximate location, the network or organisation your connection belongs to, and your IP address at the moment you submit — see below
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking services on this website, and we do not build a profile of your browsing. See our cookie notice.
Visitor context on enquiry forms
When an enquiry form loads, the page makes a single request to a lookup service (ipwho.is) which returns an approximate location, the network or organisation your connection belongs to, and your IP address. Those three values are attached to your enquiry.
The reason is practical: it tells us roughly where an enquiry has come from before we ring you back, which matters when we are deciding whether a site is one we can sensibly attend.
Two firm conditions apply to this, and we treat them as binding:
- No visitor is ever contacted as a result of, or with reference to, a visit to this website. If you have not submitted an enquiry, you will not hear from us. We do not use this information for prospecting, and we do not identify or approach organisations because they appeared in a lookup.
- The IP address is discarded once the lookup is complete and is not retained beyond the enquiry record it is attached to.
The lookup sets no cookies and no script from the lookup service runs on this site. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests — responding accurately and efficiently to an enquiry you have chosen to send us. If you would rather it did not happen, block the request in your browser, or ring us on the number on the contact page instead; the form works either way.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To answer your enquiry — our lawful basis is legitimate interests: you have asked us a question and we need your details to reply. Where the enquiry leads to a quotation or contract, our basis is the steps taken at your request prior to entering a contract.
- To keep a record of enquiries and the work that follows — legitimate interests, and where relevant our legal obligations around business and tax records.
We do not use your details for marketing unless you have separately asked us to, and we do not sell or rent them to anybody.
Who we share it with
Your enquiry is handled by our own staff. We use the following processors in delivering this website and handling enquiries:
- Netlify — hosts this website and processes form submissions
- Our email and business systems provider — stores and handles correspondence
Where a project involves colleagues elsewhere in The Specialist Electrical Group Ltd, your details may be shared within the group for the purpose of delivering the work you have asked about. We do not share your information with anyone else unless we are required to by law.
Where it is held
Personal data is held within the UK or the European Economic Area wherever possible. Where a provider processes data outside that area, appropriate safeguards are in place as required by UK data protection law.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Where an enquiry becomes a project, records are kept for the duration of the contract and then for as long as we are required to retain business records. Ask us at any time and we will tell you what we hold about you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, to ask us to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email hello@segwifi.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or by telephone on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you raised it with us first so we have a chance to put it right.
Website visitors
Our host keeps standard server logs, which may include IP addresses, for security and operational purposes. We do not use these logs to identify or contact individual visitors, and no visitor is ever contacted as a result of, or with reference to, a visit to this website.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and the review date at the foot of it. If we ever add analytics or any other tracking to this site, this notice and the cookie notice will be updated and a consent banner added at the same time.
