Managed Wi-Fi and support

A Wi-Fi network is not a thing you install and forget. Buildings change, device fleets grow and the spectrum around you gets busier every year. Managed support keeps the design honest.

Why networks drift

A network that validated perfectly at handover will not stay that way on its own, and nothing has to go wrong for it to degrade.

  • The building changes. New racking, a mezzanine, a partition layout, a change of use in one wing. Every one of those changes the radio environment the design was built for.
  • The device fleet grows. More devices, newer standards, different applications. Capacity that was comfortable becomes marginal without anybody noticing a specific day it happened.
  • The neighbours change. The unit next door installs eight access points at full power on your channels. You did nothing, and your network got worse.
  • Firmware moves. Vendor updates change roaming behaviour, band steering and default power. Applied blind, an update can undo a commissioning decision that was made deliberately.
  • Somebody makes a change. An SSID added for a project and never removed, power turned up to fix a complaint, a channel changed by hand. Small changes, compounding.

Support catches drift while it is still cheap to correct.

What's included

Proactive monitoring

Access point availability, client counts, channel utilisation, interference and error rates watched continuously, so a developing problem is visible before users start reporting it. Alerting is tuned to your site rather than left on vendor defaults — an alert that fires constantly is an alert nobody reads.

Remote and on-site response

Most faults are resolved remotely. Where they can't be, an engineer attends. Response targets are agreed with you at the outset and written into the agreement.

Firmware, licences and lifecycle

Firmware assessed before it is applied, and applied in a maintenance window rather than automatically. Licence and subscription renewals tracked so a platform doesn't quietly stop being supported. Hardware end-of-life flagged early enough to budget for.

Change support

New SSIDs, policy changes, guest network configuration, additional access points as areas change use. Advice on whether a proposed change needs a re-survey — and an honest answer when it does.

Annual RF health check

An on-site survey once a year, compared against the original design and the previous year's results. It is the difference between finding out that the network has drifted and finding out because the warehouse stopped picking.

Who it suits

Managed support earns its keep where connectivity is operationally critical rather than merely convenient:

  • Warehouses and distribution centres where a Wi-Fi fault stops picking and despatch
  • Hotels, venues and hospitality where guest connectivity is a reviewed part of the experience
  • Schools and colleges with a support window that doesn't stretch to RF engineering
  • Care settings where connectivity underpins clinical and safety systems
  • Managed and multi-tenant property where the landlord carries the service obligation
  • Organisations with no in-house wireless expertise, which is most organisations

It is not compulsory. If you have a capable internal team and would rather call us when you need us, that's a perfectly sensible arrangement and we're happy with it.

FAQ

Common questions

Do we have to have a support contract?

No. We'll survey, design and install without one, and you can call us as and when. The contract exists because some sites want continuous monitoring and a known response, not because we require it.

Can you support a network you didn't install?

Yes. We'd normally want to survey it first so we know what we're taking on and can be straight with you about what condition it's in — taking over a network unseen isn't fair to either of us.

What platforms can you monitor?

The major commercial platforms we work with, including Cisco Meraki, Ruckus CommScope, Cambium and Ubiquiti UniFi. Tell us what you run and we'll confirm.

Is the annual health check the same as a validation survey?

Similar tooling, different purpose. A validation survey proves a new installation meets its design. A health check tracks an existing network against that design over time and flags drift.

What happens if a change needs a new survey?

We'll say so, and we'll say why. A partition change in one wing usually needs that area re-surveyed, not the whole site. We'd rather scope it honestly than either miss a problem or over-sell a re-survey.

Let's find out what your Wi-Fi is actually doing.

Book a survey and you get measured data, a design you can build to, and a number you can budget against — not an opinion.
